Kishwaukee SRA provides participants with wonderful and exciting leisure education experiences, connecting individuals with community resources and social opportunities!

Independently Me!

This program runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and focuses on a variety of daily living skills, community integration and FUN for participants! Each day is registered separately and focuses on a different set of skills and activities. This program is designed by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

Tuesdays: Volunteer with us on Tuesdays! This program will assist participants with volunteering opportunities in their community, while increasing their daily living skills and knowledge of using public transportation! Volunteer opportunities will be based on the interests of the participants and will include the following venues: TAILS, libraries, Feed My Starving Children and more.

Wednesdays: Wednesday is fitness day! Participants will work out at Genoa fitness center and discuss proper eating habits to increase healthy living skills. Participants will also visit local parks, weather permitting.

Thursdays: Thursday is a community outing day. Participants will explore and discover the many interesting places in surrounding communities! Details of outing locations are listed below.

Participation Criteria—

Must have a moderate to high level of ability (no 1:1 staff provided) and:

-Able to complete assigned activities and outings.

-Able to express, verbally or with a reasonable accommodation, emotions/feelings/wants/needs while appropriately interacting with peers.

-Must display a desire to engage in leisure/recreation and volunteerism.

T’NT – Life Skills Program

T'NTYEP

Developed by RAMP and funded through YEP (Youth Engaged in Philanthropy) grant by the DeKalb County Community Foundation, this program is for teens and young adults who are transitioning into greater independence. Program Leader: Mike Franckowiak

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation & life skills, and social/peer interactions.

Social Night

This program allows the participating individuals to choose the social activity! While all activities will be done at the facility the options range from movie nights to storytelling. Participants may be dropped off at any time after 6:00 PM but must be picked up by 10:00 PM, making this a perfect program for parents looking for a night out or participants looking for a fun Friday night!

This program is designed to build social skills and self-determination.

Learn to prepare delicious tasting food with a Registered Dietitian at Hy-Vee—Sycamore in their completely accessible teaching kitchen.

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation & life skills, and social/peer interactions.

 

Music Exploration Mondays

Come make music with us on Mondays! Each class offers a different musical experience, including therapeutic drumming and meditation, eurhythmic exercises and dancing, theater games and improvisation, and musically guided art projects. Program Leader: Abby Mungai

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, social/peer interactions, gross motor skills, verbal skills, and new and transferable music skills.
