Caregivers Accessing Resources, Education and Support is a collaborative effort between Kishwaukee SRA and Centennial Counseling Center! We are offering an evening of education and camaraderie for parents and caregivers brought to you by Nicole McDonald Martinez, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, from Centennial Counseling Center. Topics will vary weekly with the needs of group and include stress reduction, behavior management, sensory tools, navigating the IEP meeting, and more. During that time, your child can be participating in a fun, goal-oriented, leisure activities with the Kishwaukee SRA staff in a separate room.

Participants: This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, social/peer interactions, gross motor skills, and verbal skills.
Parents/Caregivers: This program is designed to assist parents and caregivers with tools and resources, as well as peer support.

 

Field Trip Fridays

Fun Community Field Trips! You will meet staff at Hopkins Park, 1403 Sycamore Road, DeKalb, at 9:00 AM for departure and 3:00 PM for pick up. All participants who are not their own legal guardian must be signed in and out by an adult. Participants will bring their own lunch, snack, refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and bug repellent.

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, and social/peer interactions.

 

Dances

Join friends and family dancing the night away! A DJ will play your favorite music that will make you want to move your body! Families can, but are not required to attend.

This program is designed to assist with gross motor skills, social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, and increase in recreation skills, and encouraging social/peer interactions.

 

Kishwaukee Cadenzas

Singers and dancers unite! Kishwaukee Cadenzas are here to shine onstage, singing pop, rock, and musical theater classics. No experience necessary, just a love for music and dance! Family & Friends are invited to a special performance at the end of the program session so participants can showcase their hard work!
Program Leader: Abby Mungai

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, social/peer interactions, gross motor skills, verbal skills, and new and transferable music skills.

Bowling

Join friends to improve your bowling skills and have fun!
This program is designed to assist with gross motor skills, social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, and social/peer interactions.

 

Art

Come make art with us on Mondays! All participants will have an opportunity to have their art displayed at the 11th Annual “SRA ART SHOW” April 15-29, with a Closing Reception on April 30. Location will be announced closer to the date.

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, social/peer interactions, gross motor skills, verbal skills, and new and transferable art skills.

Kishwaukee SRA also offers participants some year-round trips and special events in the local area. Some upcoming events include:

  • Department of Defense Warrior Games Opening Ceremony in Chicago, IL
  • Seasonal dances in DeKalb, Sandwich, Sycamore, and now Rochelle!
  • Fun social events such as Bingo and Cookouts with our neighbor SRA: FVSRA in Sugar Grove, IL
  • Steam Show & Threshing Bee in Sycamore, IL
  • SRA Day at Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, IL
