*New*  Therapeutic Horseback Riding

Have you ever wanted to try riding a horse? Now, you can! KSRA is partnering up with HorsePower Therapeutic Riding in Maple Park, IL. So, come out to the barn and learn the basic skills of horseback riding and horse care for a four week lesson. This is a therapeutic horseback riding program to help you discover the enjoyment that working with horses gives you while improving on your personal skills. Additional forms/waivers may be required.

This program is designed to assist with communication, overcoming challenges, learning new skills, connection, teamwork, and increase physical, emotional, cognitive, sensory and social growth.

Participation Criteria:

  • Participants must weigh under 220 pounds to ride a horse.
  • Participants over 220 pound will be able to participate in all ground activities but cannot ride a horse.
  • Participants will need to complete an assessment from KSRA staff upon registration to determine eligibility.

Science! Technology! Engineering! Art! Math! Come learn about these different topics through experiments and activities that will knock your socks off.

This program is designed to assist with gross motor skills, social skills, leisure education, social/peer interactions, fine motor skills, and cognitive growth.

 

*New* Movement Mondays

Find your inner peace. Take an hour out of your day and relax with a variety of activities including: mindfulness, yoga, art, and dance. No experience necessary. All abilities welcome.

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation & life skills, social/peer interactions, and gross motor skills.

 

Field Trip Saturdays

Fun Community Field Trips! You will meet staff at Hopkins Park, 1403 Sycamore Road, DeKalb, at 10:00 AM for departure and 4:00 PM for pick up. All participants who are not their own legal guardian must be signed in and out by an adult. Participants will bring their own lunch, snack, and refillable water bottle.

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, and social/peer interactions.

 

Let’s Dance!

Show us your moves! Bring your family and friends to have fun dancing the night away! Feel free to wear costumes and outfits for each of the different themed dances.

This program is designed to assist with gross motor skills, social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, encouraging social/peer interactions, increasing recreational skills.

 

Kishwaukee Cadenzas

Singers and dancers unite! Kishwaukee Cadenzas are here to shine onstage, singing pop, rock, and musical theater classics. No experience necessary, just a love for music and dance! Family & Friends are invited to a special performance at the end of the program session so participants can showcase their hard work!

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, social/peer interactions, gross motor skills, verbal skills, and new and transferable music skills.

Bowling

Join friends to improve your bowling skills and have fun! Programming available in DeKalb, Sandwich, and Rochelle!
This program is designed to assist with gross motor skills, social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, and social/peer interactions.

 

Art

Let your creativity fly. It’s time to use your imagination with Kishwaukee SRA! We will utilize a variety of mediums to create many different types of art.

This program is designed to assist with social skills, use of community resources, leisure education, an increase in recreation skills, social/peer interactions, gross motor skills, verbal skills, creative expression, and new and transferable art skills.

Kishwaukee SRA also offers participants some year-round trips and special events in the local area. Some upcoming events include:

  • SRA Movie Night in DeKalb, IL
  • Seasonal celebrations like as Friendsgiving and Costume Bowling in Sycamore, Sandwich, and Rochelle, IL!
  • Buddy Bowling in Sandwich, IL
  • Penguin Production in Sycamore, IL
