From the Executive Director:

Dear Kishwaukee SRA Participants, Families and Friends;

Welcome to 2020! I hope that you and your families all had a wonderful and blessed
holiday season. With the beginning of a new year it brings about time to reflect on
the past and plan for the future. Over the last few months of 2019, we invited families
and other community members that support us to complete a survey about KSRA’s
services and programs. From the information we gather, Allie, myself and the KSRA
Board will be creating a strategic plan to continue to move KSRA forward. If you were
not able to complete the survey, you are still welcome to give your input. Send us an
email and let us know what you think and what you would like to see in KSRA’s future.
Once a plan is formalized, we will share to let the families know what is to come!
A few exciting notes as we begin 2020: KSRA will have its first Special Olympic
Bocce team starting practice in January. The season will end with a tournament
in April, held at DeKalb Park District, Sports and Recreation Center. Our
practice space is the same, so we have the home field advantage! As always,
we are collaborating with Itty Bitty Pool School to host the Killer Whales, our
Special Olympic Swim Team. If you want to get involved with either of these
sports, please give us a call. Are there any new sports that you would like to see
KSRA offer? Let us know! We can offer a competitive program, which is typically
Special Olympics, or a recreational program which would focus on fun and skill
development. We are continuing to build on the success of our School’s Day Out
programs held in Fall. We will host a number of days throughout the Winter and
Spring. To meet the needs of as many of our families as possible, KSRA selects
the days off as scheduled for the majority of the school districts we serve.

As many of you are aware, the minimum wage has and will continue to increase
throughout the years to come; while this is great news for those that will benefit,
it also impacts employers. KSRA strives to have the best staff working within
our programs ensuring we offer them competitive pay. With the Winter/Spring
season our programs fees will be increasing to help cover these costs. Whenever
possible we try to keep program fees reasonable for our families. The quality of
our program is important! This quality starts with the staff we hire to work with
our participants. As a means to help families, KSRA does have a scholarship fund.
Families in need are welcome to apply. For those families that can help we ask
kindly for a donation to the scholarship fund. All the funds received with our simple
ask will go directly into the scholarship funds, no overhead costs applied. Our
fundraising event to be held in the spring will be a t-shirt drive! Everyone can use a
new fun t-shirt! Our t-shirts will have empowering statements while also promoting
KSRA. Be on the lookout for those in spring, just in time for short sleeve season!

I hope you come Play, Laugh, Learn and Grow with us this year!
