From the Executive Director:
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Welcome to 2017! There have been a lot of changes that have taken shape through the development of Kishwaukee SRA in the four years that I have been Executive Director.
- KSRA has introduced the Inclusion Policy to all of the park district member agencies so that your participant can attend their park district programming as well as attend the KSRA programming.
- KSRA has hired a second full-time staff – Stacy Veldhuizen, CTRS – as the Therapeutic Recreation Program Coordinator. Under the current team of full time and part time staff, volunteers, supporters and families, the programs and participation has grown tremendously and we have been able to help individuals with different abilities reach their dreams!
- Kishwaukee SRA is proud to announce the Sandwich and the Flagg-Rochelle Park Districts joining the KSRA family of the park district members that it serves. As you review the programs through the pages of this guide and next, you will see a variety of programs offered in all five park district member agency locations – DeKalb, Flagg-Rochelle, Genoa Township, Sandwich, and Sycamore.
- KSRA is planning their first signature fundraising event – “Spring Forward to Accessibility!” The Sports-themed fundraiser will be on March 10, 2017 at the Hopkins Park Terrace Room in DeKalb. The night will be filled with fun, food, music, and games all to benefit KSRA to support their scholarship fund and to create a fund to purchase an accessible vehicle for program transportation.
We thank you for all of your support and suggestions through the past few years of development and we look forward to experiencing the joy and excitement from the participants for years to come. As our tag line states, we are truly “Making friends and learning with KSRA!”

Who is Julie Eggleston?
I have been involved in the field of Recreation Therapy for over ten years as a CTRS, and am a Certified Registered Therapeutic Horseback Riding Instructor. I received my Bachelor’s in Science with Therapeutic Recreation as an emphasis in 2002 and my Master’s in Science with Non-Profit Agency Management as an emphasis in 2008, both at Western Illinois University.
I have vast experience in programming, facilitation, inclusion, and supervision of staff and volunteers. My previous experience started with the Illinois River Valley Special Recreation Association located in East Peoria, Illinois and the McDonough County Special Recreation in Macomb, Illinois. My experience stretched to South Bend, Indiana, working at the Sonya Ansari Center for Autism where I planned therapeutic recreation programs for the Center’s families, and back to Illinois where I have settled down to plant my roots in Sugar Grove with husband Aaron, three children – Alicia, Sam, and Aimee Claire – and dogs Andora and Sandi. I was involved with Fox Valley Special Recreation Association as an Inclusion Specialist from August 2010 until the acceptance of this position at Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association in January 2013. I look forward to working with Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association’s family and friends for many years to come!
