This program runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and focuses on a variety of daily living skills, community integration and FUN for participants! Each day is registered separately and focuses on a different set of skills and activities. This program is designed by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
Monday focuses on general leisure education. Individuals learn how to use public transportation and improve their basic social skills.
On Tuesdays, this program will assist the participants in volunteering in the community that they live and also assist them in increasing their daily living skills while learning about animals and how to take care of them. Other volunteer opportunities may be explored as well based on the interests of the participants.
Wednesday is fitness day! Participants will work out at Genoa fitness center and discuss proper eating habits to increase healthy living skills. Participants will also visit local parks, weather permitting.
Thursday is a community outing day. Participants will explore and discover the many interesting places in surrounding communities! Details of outing locations are listed below.
Must have a moderate to high level of ability (no 1:1 staff provided) and:
-Able to complete assigned activities and outings provided.
-Able to express, verbally or with a reasonable accommodation, emotions/feelings/wants/needs while appropriately interacting with peers.
-Must display a desire to engage in leisure/recreation and volunteerism.
-Completion of a mandatory assessment for new participants to determine eligibility.
Participants will meet Kishwaukee SRA staff at Hopkins Park Administrative Building, 1403 Sycamore Road, DeKalb, IL, and will return to same location for pick up at 3:00 PM.
